How Do We Pray?

  • Sometimes you talk to God.
  • Sometimes you vent to God.
  • Sometimes you listen to God.
  • At all times you give thanks to God.

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • What is one word that best describes your current relationship with Jesus? How so?
  • Be real. How often do you pray? What is it like?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.

  • Have you ever held any of the misconceptions Pastor Craig mentioned about prayer? How could these misconceptions affect your relationship with God?
  • Read John 15:5. What are your first thoughts after reading this? What does it mean to be Jesus’ friend?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.

  • Read James 5:16. How often do you pray for others for their healing? Can you share a story of a time someone was healed?
  • What are some ways prayer has brought life to your relationship with God? Describe how you pray in a typical day.
  • Which of these do you want to do more of with God: talking, venting, listening, or thanking?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

Good Father, what a privilege it is to get to know You through regular conversation. Jesus, we thank You for what You’ve done and what You regularly do in our lives. Holy Spirit, help us to listen better to Your voice. We pray this the name of our friend, Jesus. Amen!

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Friends don’t talk the same way and same time every day. How will you refresh your prayer routine this week?
  • Consider using a prayer notebook or an app like Echo Prayer to keep track of your prayers and their answers.
  • Start the How Sweet the Sound Bible Plan with friends, and try praying for each other in the Talk It Over section: www.go2.lc/sound
