Winning the War Within

I Declare War

Review this week’s message.

Key Scriptures

I’m a mystery to myself, for I want to do what is right, but end up doing what my moral instincts condemn.
Romans 7:15 TPT

I do live in the world. But I don’t fight my battles the way the people of the world do. The weapons I fight with are not the weapons the world uses. In fact, it is just the opposite. My weapons have the power of God to destroy the camps of the enemy. I destroy every claim and every reason that keeps people from knowing God. I keep every thought under control in order to make it obey Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 NIRV

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. ...
Proverbs 23:7 NKJV

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2 NKJV

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2 NKJV

... “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
Matthew 22:37 NKJV

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
Proverbs 18:21 MSG

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • Who has made the biggest impact on your life? How so?
  • Name something that seemed super important when you were a kid but matters way less to you now that you’re an adult.

Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.

  • What do you think about yourself? Is there any version of you that you don’t want to see?
  • How would you describe how you talk to yourself and others? Are you more of a coach or more of a critic?
  • Share about a time when you persevered. What helped you overcome the obstacles you were facing?

Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.

  • What are some ways you could coach yourself and others toward Christlikeness? What changes would you need to make to the words you use?
  • How can you rely more on God to help you through tough times?

Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.

Father, thank You that we don’t need to fight this war by ourselves. Thank You for being with us no matter what we face and for giving us the example of Your Son to follow. Support us as we persevere in becoming more like You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Take some time this week to consider who you are and who God is calling you to be. Then think about how you can change your mindset to make those changes happen.
