I was in prison, and you visited me.’ ... ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”
Matthew 25:34-36, 40 NLT

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • If you could be the Greatest of All Time at one thing, what would it be?
  • Who do you know who always does kind things for others? How do people view that person?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.

  • Read Matthew 23:11. Who do you get tired of (or dislike) serving? What would happen if you viewed serving them as the greatest thing you do?
  • Has someone ever joyfully helped you with something “small”? How did it make you feel?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.

  • What are some “little things” you tend to consider beneath you? What do you think would happen if you started doing some of those things anyway?
  • What “little things” do you do that others probably don’t notice? Why do you think God views these small acts of service as great?
  • How can you more faithfully serve your friends, family, and community?

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

God, give us eyes to see needs around us and willing hearts to help whenever we can. Help us not to view anything You have us do as “too small.” Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Bring a lunch, offer a ride, and carry a towel. How can you do more of these this week?
  • When you have to do something “small” for others this week, jot it down somewhere—even with just a tally mark. At the end of each day, thank God for all the truly great ways you were able to serve Him.
  • Start the Selfless Bible Plan as a group using the new Plans with Friends feature in YouVersion.
