The Right Response

The Right Response

Review this week’s message.

Key Scriptures

... “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice ...”
1 Samuel 15:22 NLT

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

“Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings.”
Malachi 3:8 NIV

Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.

  • All right, who’s got a joke? Let’s hear it.
  • What was your favorite story or joke from Michael Jr.’s message?

Start thinking. Ask a thoughtful question.

  • Read 2 Corinthians 9:7. What makes you feel cheerful about giving? How do you go about deciding in your heart what to give?
  • Why do you think it can be difficult to be generous?

Start sharing. Choose questions that create openness.

  • Share a story of a time you gave more than you thought you could. What happened?
  • Generosity requires both giving and receiving. Which is more difficult for you? Why do you think that is?
  • Michael Jr. made the point that obedience is better than sacrifice. Read 1 Samuel 15:22, then share the next choice you want to make to obey God.

Start praying. Be bold, and pray with power.

God, it’s good to laugh. We want to have that same kind of joy when we give. Will You show us what it means to give with a cheerful heart? Give us the opportunities to obediently give back to You. Thank You for all the ways You’re constantly providing for us. Thank You for Your generosity with us. Amen.

Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • If you’re thinking about tithing, here’s a fun way to get started:
  • Give something, financial or otherwise, that forces you to trust God to come through.
